  • The client: Praktiker is a leading DIY store chain in Hungary with 1200+ employees. Their first store was opened in 1998,and currently they operate 19 stores throughout the country.
  • The retail website: Praktiker.hu is among the top 300 most visited websites in Hungary. The number of page visitors varies according to the different seasons. During summertime, at its peak, the number of visitors is around 450.000 monthly with more than 9 million page loads. On a yearly average, the site has 320.000 visitors, 6.5 million page loads and 450.000 searches per month
  • The task: Praktiker assigned Prefixbox the task to optimize their existing search engine to help customers find products they are searching for more efficiently
  • The solution: Prefixbox online service has significantly increased the search efficiency in multiple ways, and the average cart value by 19%.

Prefixbox’s Autocomplete feature optimizes search suggestions and recommends popular products based on previous user behavior. It shows relevant suggestions right after focusing into the search box. „Using prefix search results in more relevant suggestions. Our customers receive instant product and category suggestions that are easy to understand, so the overall user experience of the site improves” – said Szilvia Burka, Head of Marketing and Online Services at Praktiker. The solution can predict the users’ search intent, too. Using synonym suggestions, Prefixbox recommends relevant keywords even when different names are typed than the ones in the product lists. The product feed and search keyword list can be configured quickly and easily on the online portal and data refresh is fully automated.


Praktiker experiences a growth of mobile traffic, too: at the moment 30% of their visitors come from mobile phones and 7% from tablets. The misspelling rate in the search box is even higher on mobile devices, and Prefixbox helps fixing that immediately during the search.
